Classical or “Traditional” Dressage is a nature oriented, systematically structured training method adapted to each individual horse. The principle involves developing rhythm, relaxation, contact, straightness, impulsion and collection.
The fundamentals of the rider’s position are of first and foremost importance in developing an independent seat which is essential to give aids sensitively enough to the horse.

The classical riding student has the desire to have a better communication with one’s horse and takes responsibility for problems that may arise when riding. The rider understands it is not up to the horse to learn human language but that we must learn the horse’s language. Often, it is taken for granted how sensitive our equine counterpart can be. A horse that assumes bad habits is simply taking measures to preserve themselves.
Quoting Melissa Simms and horsemen before her, Tressa says “the horse can only be as good as the rider” which draws us to the conclusion that without a properly developed seat and use of aids, a rider will seldom achieve the desired communication with their horse.
